God hides

We long for epiphanies and search for the extra-ordinary which would convince us about God’s favor, His closeness, and ourselves being chosen to witness the special moment, supernatural, extravagant. That would validate our desire to have an experience that would top previous ones. We want to find the result of our long journeys to be out of this world. After recognizing in a peculiar way the star that leads us to that long-awaited moment where the mountaintop experience will validate our gifts or call our human aspirations and spiritual ambition await the revelation.

And when after a long patient journey, prophetic insights, enduring hardships, and obstacles we arrive to see the Ordinary Child in a family, we are stunned and maybe speechless. We expected hosts of angels, thunders and lightning, faces shining with the glory of the One who hides in the cliffs of heaven but we see mom, dad, and baby, in their daily lives, also surprised by our arrival.

God hides in everyday life to reveal how close His divine nature has come to our humanity. He hides in the baby’s cheeks and whispers of tired parents going to sleep. He hides in between making breakfast and washing clothes. He hides in daily baby’s milestones and thoughts about how to make it to the next month as a family. He hides in going to work and in reading the same book for the 165th time. He hides in singing lullabies and in sitting by a sick child’s bed.

See His appearances where He dwells. Don’t miss the most obvious in the hearts’ closest.

God did not sigh heavily before coming down from heaven. He did not lower Himself with an afterthought. His condescension is an act of unprecedented love and it rises us up to His glory because love can be shared only between equals.

Jesus' hidden 30 years are as important as His ministry years. Without the first 30, the last three would not happen. Those 30 are not of lesser value, they are left as a mystery lived intentionally in the intimacy of His family, friends, and close neighborhood, including his religious community. Go there to see what's valuable, eternal, transformational.
